Pagan Blues

Pagan Blues

Well, one night I couldn't sleep, and I'd been listening to a lot of Robert Johnson and Billie Holiday and Patsy Cline, so I started making up a pagan blues song. It should be sung to any generic blues tune (any song by Robert Johnson will work if you can't come up with one)...

The Goddess Blues

Oh I love the Goddess
But she don't love me back
I give that mama all my lovin'
but she don't love me back
Gonna get on that astral train
and ride off down the track

Oh I went lookin' on the astral plane
but she wasn't nowhere to be found
Went down deep into my unconscious
but she just wasn't nowhere to be found
Yeah I keep on invokin' and invokin'
but she don't want me hangin' round

Well I took out my athame
and plunged it into the cup
Yeah I took out my ritual dagger (yes I did)
and I plunged it deep into that cup
I keep makin' that Great Rite
but it just ain't symbolic enough

Me and the Goddess

(To be sung to the tune of "Me and the Devil" by Robert Johnson)

Early this morning
She knocked on my door
Early this morning, ooooh,
When she knocked on my door,
I said "Hello, Isis,
I believe it's time to go.

Me and the Goddess
Were walking side by side
I said, me and the Goddess, ooooh,
Were walking side by side
And I'm going to make love to my woman
Until she gets satisfied

She say that I treat her right
that I give her what she needs
She say I treat her right, ooooh
I give her just what she needs
Well it must be that old sacred spirit
So deep inside of me

You may scatter my ashes
Down by the riverside
(Baby, I don't care what you do with my body when I'm in the Summerlands)
You may scatter my ashes, ooooh,
Down by the riverside
So my old sacred spirit
Can be reborn to another life
